Bad Idea

The Brand Eaters

membersonly

Members Only, everyone’s favorite 80s scapegoat, is re-launching today under the watchful eye of Kelli Delaney, alumnus of such esteemed publications as Allure, Glamour, and that pinnacle of fashion wisdom, Us Weekly. But more interesting are the places she hasn’t worked. Not only is this Delaney’s first foray into the production side of the business, she had no connection whatsoever with the 80s incarnation of Members Only.

Bad Idea/Good Idea

For a Good Cos

billcosby_crop.jpg

Bill Cosby is a pretty unlikely style icon, but we’re willing to bite. He’s put three of his iconic sweaters up for auction on eBay, and so far no one’s taken the bait.

We have to admit, we’re a little surprised. These jazzy numbers pack more 80s baggage than all the Members Only jackets and guyliner in SoHo. And it’s to benefit the Cos’s education charity, so high-rollers shouldn’t balk at the four-figure price tag. Maybe M.I.A. wants one?

Membership

It’s been a while since we heard from the Parisian boutique/electropop label Kitsune, but they made it back onto the radar with this collarless Harrington jacket.

The real masterstroke here are the blue and white stripes—look close—that keep it from being just another Member’s Only knockoff…which Paris certainly doesn’t need any more of.

Membership Has its Priveleges

tarpon_crop.jpg

The Members Only jacket has a pretty checkered past, but it may be leaking into thte mainstream.

This Rag & Bone Tarpon Jacket is dangerously close to membership territory, but for once we don’t mind so much. A light nylon, a clever plaid lining and, yes, a few epaulettes just add up to a spring jacket, not a faux-pas.

Time heals all wounds, apparently.
