Kempt Man of the Hour: Hamish Bowles

Photography: Patrick McMullan

Photographed by our fearless lensman, Patrick McMullan

This marks the first, but by no means the last, MOTH appearance for Hamish Bowles, the dashing Brit writer, editor and style guru who’s one of the best dressed men in the world. His impeccable bespoke suits—some day we hope to wrest from him the name of his tailor—are always accompanied by eye-popping shirt and tie combinations, offset by the ever-present insouciant forelock and bold tortoiseshell eyeglasses.

Art Threat

Superflat

murakami6_crop.jpg

The gala opening of Takashi Murakami’s exhibition was predictably packed last night, with Marc Jacobs among the attendees. Kanye took a break from managing his new travel site to put on a show and keep the crowd on their feet. And, aside from the eminent-domain protests outside, things couldn’t have gone better.

Louis Vuitton was well-represented with an outdoor table of pointedly non-counterfeit goods, but they had more than a few representatives in the crowd as well»

The Avery Rule

avery1_crop.jpg

If you’ve been watching hockey at all this season - and given that you’re reading a men’s fashion website, there’s only about a 20% chance of that - you might have noticed that Sean Avery, forward for the surging New York Rangers is a little bit of an odd bird. But WWD tapped us into a whole new level of the left wing’s oddness.

Loving Avery Moment

savery2_crop.jpg

It looks like the NHL’s biggest eccentric is continuing his winning streak.

Sean Avery, the New York Ranger and occasional MOTH is making the most of his tenure at Vogue. He’s had a very respectable run of posts at the blog, covering sneaker shops, shabu shabu and, of course, sports bars.

Avery’s more contemplative moments can be found here, in an essay discussing his time at the magazine. We’ll say this for him: he pulls off a plaid short-suit with uncommon conviction.
