Quirky indie icon David Byrne has mastered many artforms, and he’s got the Grammys, Oscars and Golden Globes on the mantle to prove it. The Scottish-born former Talking Head and RISD dropout recently joined Paul Simon onstage for one night of the latter’s month-long residency at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
At the BAM bash, Byrne proved he’s come a long way from the oversized suit Stop Making Sense days famously mocked by Saturday Night Live. His beautiful blue wide-stripe Paul Smith jacket with prominent pick-stitching fit him perfectly, with just the right touch of insouciance to play up his personality.
Accompanying it was a modernistic white shirt from Belgian designer Stephan Schneider, a pair of plain dark trousers and saddle shoes. The supremely-talented Smith may use the usual emo types in his ad campaigns, but we don’t think he could ask for a much better model than this.
